The dentist will

  • Examine your tooth, and then
  • Reshape it to make room for the new crown by removing any decay.
  • The dentist takes a digital scan of your tooth. This will create a 3D image.
  • The dentist uses the 3D image to design your crown on a computer. This design process ensures the crown fits perfectly.
  • The dentist sends the design to an in-office milling machine.
  • This will make the crown out of a ceramic block.
  • The dentist will ensure the new crown fits perfectly in your mouth.
  • Finally, the dentist will attach a new crown to your tooth (or teeth).

Super Tip

CEREC crowns, like other ceramic crowns, can fracture if subjected to excessive force or if they are not fitted properly.

Do not chew on hard objects such as ice or pens to prevent fracturing the crown.
